Bright Street Cobden Surfing

Had to do a grocery shop today for a restock of the pantry so met Stephen for lunch.  I made a packed lunch and we met down at Bright Street in Cobden so the boys could have a run around on the beach.

Great surfing spot and we were fortunate enough to have a couple of the locals – Phil and Bing out carving up the waves.  It was one of those days where the surf didn’t look much but the waves that did roll in were near on perfect.  Either that or the boys catching them made them look perfect.

For a non surfer like myself and in fact someone who isn’t even that keen on water, these guys made it look easy and made me think I wouldn’t mind giving it a go.  Of course I’m way more sensible than that thank you!  Great to watch though and took quite a bit of discipline to drag my self away and go do that grocery shop.

Jan and Stephen run Breakers Boutique Accommodation on the Great Coast Road, north of Greymouth.  When they aren’t taking care of their guests they are out with their two dogs exploring the many wonders that are the West Coast.  Check out their activities pages for ideas on things to see and do while visiting the West Coast.

  1. Much harder than it looks :). These guys seem to know what they’re doing. Cheers -BB

it definitely is – but yes, they are good and know what they are doing. They were catching waves that I didn’t think would be anything and they just kept riding them. It was a great fun watching them.

These guys always make it look so easy… I’ve tried it years ago… either I have no balance or no idea.. but I nearly drowned, fell on the board among all the other things that can go wrong… lovely photos though…

  3. Excellent shots, thanks for the follow.
