Westport – the Riveria of the South

Stephen took a drive around Westport yesterday and visited many of the beaches on the gorgeous part of the West Coast.

Sandy shores of Carters Beach Westport

First off out to Carters Beach south of Westport.  Beautiful stretch of sandy beach.

The drive to Cape Foulwind

He then followed these guys on the road out to Cape Foulwind.  Someone was in for some fun.

Popped down the cliff-face to the stony, rocky beach.

And lastly along from the Lighthouse at Cape Foulwind.

Stephen and Jan run Breakers Boutique Accommodation on the Great Coast Road north of Greymouth.  Follow the coastline to Westport – voted one of the top ten coastal drives in the world by Lonely Planet.  Check out their activities page for things to see and do in this area.  Something for everyone.

Now that is a beach that I would avoid.. Cape Foulwind… the name would tell me it is not the best place to catch a tan…Carters beach looks more like the place to go… now that is a lovely beach… thanks for sharing such magnificent photos of the great land of the All Blacks (obviously not the best rugby team in the world, but they do try)…

Actually it is a gorgeous beach also – very dramatic. Captain Cook named it – one of the first sights he made of NZ. It is aptly named when a good wind is blowing though! Love your comments re the All Blacks – you are such a hoot – my husband though says “let it go Bulldog” tee hee!

Thanks – yes we are very fortunate with our surroundings. Currently we have a magnificent sunrise in process so looks like it is going to be another stunning day.
