Let’s go surfing now, everybody surfing now, come on a safari with me, da, da, da da da da da…….
Cobden tiphead, Blaketown tiphead, Bright Street, beach breaks at Rapahoe, Nine Mile, 13 Mile and 14 mile (Sinclair’s) – wow – how cool is that. That’s a lot of surfing options in one small area.
Here at Breakers we’re situated at Nine Mile and have a great left break right out in front of us. Stephen likes to call it the Nine Mile pipe. He is trying to start a revolution – to date only two people have signed up……..
We have guests stay with us (obviously since we’re a b&b but bear with me here!) – old school friends from Timaru who get together and often come and stay with us. There are four of them in all – now based in Timaru, Christchurch and Nelson and their love of surfing helps keep their friendship going – well ok, probably more to it than that, but sounds good don’t you think! I still remember the first time they stayed with us – they were in surfers heaven, out in the surf at first light, breakfast, back in the water, sitting on the deck watching, back in the water, sitting on the lookout seat watching, back in the water. By day three they were all pretty shattered. I have noticed on subsequent visits they do pace themselves much better now!
The lads came again this season in February. Busy time of the year for us with our international visitors but we managed to find room for them. The conditions were pretty good and they got a couple of good surfs right here at Nine Mile.
Always good to see the lads back – look forward to the next time.
