Look at me, look at me, look at me, I’m so pretty……..
Instead of dust flying there is dog hair flying today. The groomers are busy with their brushes making sure that last hair is put back in place – a little fluff up here, a little dab down there. The dogs actually seem to enjoy it – guess it is no different from us humans enjoying going to the hairdressers or beauty therapist – nice and relaxing. Some of these dogs even turn and look at their groomers/owner as if to say don’t stop.
It is the annual West Coast Kennel Association show day in Greymouth, held at Omoto Racecourse. The sun is out, deck chairs are strategically placed around the rings, gazebos are added for protection against the sun, there are dogs, there are people – whew it is full on. Some of the dogs truly have the dog’s life with their own tables to lie and relax on between their turn in the ring.
There is quite the array of dog breeds – all sizes big and small. I guess it is a little like a child’s beauty Paget – perhaps more set up for the humans than the dogs as it is certainly some of the humans showing their competitive side rather than dogs. The dogs are obviously all well socialized and while there is the occasional bark or growl many are happy to say their doggy hellos and the little ones enjoy playing together.
It is a great day out full of colourful dogs and owners. It is fun watching the “runners” take the dogs round the ring with the dogs strutting their stuff – chests puffed proudly, prancing around and almost smiling.
There is plenty of playtime too for some – especially the younger ones and for others it was all about lying in sun and getting petted…….. I think a good time had by all, competitors and visitors alike. Look at me, look at me, look at me – I’m so pretty………
