February sees the annual Gold Nuggets MotoX event hosted by the Westland Motorcycle Club at Waipuna Station inland from Greymouth.
This is an awesome event and after attending the junior nationals last year we knew we had to go to see the big boys racing. We were not disappointed.
Talk about a challenging and physical course. We watched in awe as these guys and girls, jumped, bobbed, accelerated, braked and all those other things in-between that I can’t even start to describe.
My personal favourite to watch would have to be the starts – everyone vying for the best position into the first couple of bends. No holds barred – dirt flying everywhere. It is a spectators delight.
Stephen enjoyed the sawdust alley from a photographer’s point of view. He got some great action shots of the riders bouncing their way through here.
Another personal favourite for me was one of the jumps heading down the hill – some of these guys got some serious air time so there was plenty of hooting and hollering coming from near where I was standing!
All in all it was a great day out and huge congratulations has to go to the organisers of this event – all the hard work of the Westland Motorcycle Club. They do a great job – super well organised event, great for competitors and spectators alike. Well done everyone – looking forward to next year. 🙂
Jan and Stephen run Breakers Boutique Accommodation on the Great Coast Road north of Greymouth. They enjoy getting out and about and exploring the wonders of the West Coast and supporting the many events that happen throughout the year – something for everyone.
