Bruce Bay, South Westland, West Coast of the Southern Alps

With a recent trip away to Central Otago and coming home a day earlier than planned we broke our drive up with a night at the beautiful Bruce Bay in South Westland.

Lake Moeraki South Westland

Did a short stop on the edge of Lake Moeraki and it was nice to be out of the snow and back into the sunshine.  Still plenty of clouds hugging the mountains but that’s ok we were just happy to be on the right side of the Pass.

Bruce Bay bach

We had a great little bach organised at Bruce Bay thanks to our friends Jacqui and John from Mahitahi Lodge – dog friendly which is exactly what we needed traveling with the boys.

Arriving just before sunset we made a bee-line down to the beach to try to get some photos before the light disappeared.

It was a beautiful evening and the colours in the sky were magnificent.  So vibrant and lovely to see the stars coming out.  The boys enjoyed a leg stretch waiting for Dad with the camera.

Back to the bach to cook some dinner and settle in for the night but we were first treated to a gorgeous starry sky – even had the Southern Cross perched right above the bach. What a welcome back to the West Coast.

Jan and Stephen run Breakers Boutique Accommodation on the Great Coast Road north of Greymouth.  Together with their faithful friends Nico and Ziggy their dogs, they enjoy getting out and about and exploring as much as they can.

That bach looks lovely and pretty darn private. Stephen’s photos convey the true vibrancy of those night skies. How special that you could take your doggie family with you. We all need a change of scenery occasionally.

Very private and great with having the boys. We love taking our boys on our adventures – they enjoy exploring this gorgeous country we live in as much as we do. Think they must just about be the most well traveled pups in the country.
