Grey River at It’s Moody Best

The West Coast just got pummelled by a storm complete with heavy rain

Tasman Sea and breakwater Cobden

Did I mention heavy rain

A break in the deluge gave Stephen a chance to get some photos of the Grey River at her best

Well maybe not her best but looking very full and very dramatic

Tasman Sea and breakwater from Greymouth Surf Club

The clouds were still hanging around the mountains, the town, the sea – so ok, still plenty of dark skies looming but that’s what made it all so moody

and of course in the Greymouth Marina

Hard to believe but we did actually get some blue skies and sunshine later in the afternoon, but you’ll just have to trust me on that and wait for my next blog…..

Jan and Stephen run Breakers Boutique Accommodation on the Great Coast Road north of Greymouth.  They love the West Coast and the variety of scenery and weather it offers.

You’ve certainly captured some wild moody weather there. I enjoy images like that even though I wouldn’t enjoy being in a wild storm. The colours and the reflections in that last one are gorgeous.

  2. A stormy day, perfect for feeling and capturing the power of nature. –Curt

These shots really have a great, ominous and heavy feeling to them. Really captures the anticipatory nature of the clouds.

Thankfully it actually cleared as the day went on – until the evening when it repeated itself, but that’s ok, don’t mind it coming at night 🙂

  4. The sky looks so dramatic !! It’s lovely to see but i think I would be scared to stay outside with such a bad weather 😉
